Combination Workouts

Why do just one type of workout when you can do more than one at the same time.  The idea is a simple one based one multi-tasking your fitness to achieve maximum results.

It's hard to say who started this trend, but it's safe to say that trainers like Jillian Michaels have contributed to the popularity of this type of workout.   Jillian, for instance, advocates for a combination of weight training and cardio in the same workout which produces much better results than using either training type
on its own.  These type of workouts are perfect for people who only have 20 or 30 minutes a day to get in a workout.  There are so many hybrid workouts now, you find one that is perfect for your fitness needs and desired results.

In workouts like Pilates Plus, you get the strength benefits of weight training, the calorie burn from cardio, and the muscle lengthening and toning of Pilates all in one.

How about "Piloxing" a cross between pilates and boxing...which will get your blood pumping and get the fantastic stretching from pilates and amazing core strengething you get from both!

Competitive Group Classes

If you’re a naturally competitive person and you haven't had the chance to compete in sports since highschool, compeition classes could be the thing for you. The idea is that people will achieve maximum fitness results when properly motivated to do so, in this case with a little friendly competition.   Instructors may keep track of participants using scoreboard at the front of the class that shows how people are fairing against each others time, and or level achieved.  On your mark, get set.....GO!

Aerial Fitness

If you think doing ariel stunts is only for professional performers, think again...  Aerial fitness classes and yoga are a thing now.   Instructors set participants up in fabric slings that are hung from the ceiling or walls and perform a series of stretches and pilates type of motions to get a full body workout.  Not for the faint of heart, this type of workout can really challenge you since you may find yourself upside down for period of time, and the necesseity for concentration is essential.  It's really a way to have fun while working out since a lot of people loath going to the gym since just doing a work out can seem boring at times.

Gadgets and Fitness Apps

Apps like MyFitnessPal and others making it easier than ever to track your calories, workouts and nutrition from your phone - and share your progress with your friends.  Portable fitness devices such as .... and apps that track your fitness progress trackers as well as online subscriptions with social aspects have grown become very poplular recently, as they cater to every type of individual wellness needs, from the busy work-aholic types, to the stay at home parents trying to juggle fitness with kids.

One technology based fitness trend that’s growing inpopularity is called ClassPass, which is an online monthly membership that allows its members to take unlimited classes at the best fitness studios all over their city for $99 a month, though you can only go to one studio three times per month.

Power Fitness - Squats

A really popular trend this year is to focus not only on fitness but on really shaping one or two body parts into the sexiest, most appealing part of your body.  The perfect example of this is the overload of instagram gifs and youtube videos showing super fit people doing a variety of seriously difficult squats, everything from wall squats, to dumbell squats, to women doing squats while holding a toddler.  The main focus for all of them being to shape and build up those butt muscles.  There are an endless variety or videos to watch which are seriously addicting and make you want to get your butt into high gear.  The butt is bigger, and more bubbley than ever!
